Should I use one file or two files in Legacy?

Which is best, 1 file or 2?    I have just started entering into Legacy 8.0, just my father's side.  Before adding anyone on my mother's side, I was wondering if they should be TWO SEPARATE files, or have them all combined into one file?  I am NOT importing anything I currently have in Ancestry or the free version of MyHeritage, because I learned that a lot of it is incorrect.  I want my LEGACY 8.0 info to be CORRECT.  Thanks!

  1. Just my two cents - for families I make one file (these sides do hook up after all). You can always have a focus group (basically a subset of your family file) if you want to look at a particular branch or root, and you can limit any reports to certain people or families. I find it just makes it easier to work in one file and you have all your locations, sources, etc., all clean and tidy (once) in a file. The only time I make a separate family file is when I do a project for a friend or client OR work on a specialized study like my one-name or one-place study. Anyone else want to jump in and provide some insight to Jerre Beal?

  2. I prefer combined even my husband's and mine.

  3. Thank you, Tessa & Dorothy!  I've been looking for an answer to this for DAYS, and decided to post the question here.  Sure enough, after I DID post it (before getting your replies, which I really appreciate!), I found the answer from a post in 2006 at:  http://legacynews.typepad.com/legacy_news/2006/03/your_legacy_dat.html
    Thank you again!   Problem solved!
