Variant spellings of surnames - what to do?

It's probably been addressed before - most likely several times, but due to my short memory recall, here's my question anyway.  There are some twenty-odd spellings / variations of my family surname - Gallagher.  In most situations, I found the spelling the result of an illiterate, political appointed census enumerator, or some other similar situation...  how is the best way to enter that person into Legacy?  I realize that we should capture the evidence as we find it, but that can certainly make future evaluations somewhat problematic - e.g., list all the "Gallaghers" - what about the Galligers, the Gallahers, etc.?  I have been correcting the surname and entering the recorded spelling as an "AKA."  What is the consensus of this highly-learned group?  Thanks for your thoughts.

Tagging by surname and adding spouses - how?

I have tagged all the individuals with the surname Smith in my database. Now I want to tag all the spouses for those individuals. How do I do that?

I have a large amount of info on a surname family - how to use Legacy with it.

I have a large amount of info on a surname family (same surname as mine and same near areas and not a common name) which I have never been able to connect to.  I would like to put this info in a Legacy program but separately from mine.  How should I do this?  And how to access without problems.  YTNX

Using Legacy with my Proverbs one-name study - some questions.

I have started a one-name study on my Proverbs family from Barbados, UK etc. Can I use Legacy to input the names as individuals/families etc until I can prove relationship? I think I heard from somewhere that i could add them as individuals and then families - help please

Thanks Tessa for another great presentation!

Thanks Tessa for another great presentation!  I bought Legacy recently as part of the Genealogy Do-Over and wanted to try something besides FTM.  Also will sign up for Legacy Webinars.  I'm registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies for my surname Carragher and variants.   http://carragherfamily.org

New to LVUG community.

Ann from mid-Iowa, USA.  I'm using Legacy 8 and starting a one name study for IGOE and variants.  Just went to the Legacy webinar with Tessa Keogh about special studies and can hardly wait to use Legacy with my one name study!   Hooray!

How to find surname variations in Legacy.

As a long time TMG users and a novice when it comes to Legacy, I am able in TMG to get numbers from my one name study using the first two letters of my surname variations and using various Tags like birth group s which include Baptism- a birth registration- birth etc. If I want to find the number of people who were born in Canada- what method do I use in Legacy?
