Tagging by surname and adding spouses - how?
I have tagged all the individuals with the surname Smith in my database. Now I want to tag all the spouses for those individuals. How do I do that?
We started out as a Google+ Community - it is closing down so we have migrated here to Blogger. This will be the place for 6+ years worth of posts and comments (an archive of sorts) as well as the place to dish up current questions, comments, and tips about our genealogy software of choice, Legacy Family Tree.
Make a Search list for all your Smith's and then click through them one at a time in Family View and tag the spouses.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JL Beeken. Considered that. They number 23,000. Is there an easier solution?
ReplyDeleteEd Allard Hilarious. I was afraid you might say something like that.
ReplyDeleteOh, export them into a new family file. Tag everyone and then import them back. They should auto-merge really fast, assuming you don't have any other outstanding potential merges to muck up the works.
Thanks again JL Beeken Think I've found something easier. I'm doing a detailed search on Spouse's surname = Smith. Think it covers what I want. Will know soon enough.
ReplyDeleteEd Allard That sounds good.
ReplyDeleteCan you do that search in Legacy?
Yes, JL Beeken that search occurs in Legacy: Detailed Search, Where to look = Spouse's surname (near the bottom of the drop down list). It worked. It's rather unseemly posting here looking for help, then solving my own problem... 😕
ReplyDeleteEd Allard Ah! It IS there. I looked yesterday and didn't see.
ReplyDeleteIt's happened to me a few times; asking and answering myself.
