Using Legacy with my Proverbs one-name study - some questions.

I have started a one-name study on my Proverbs family from Barbados, UK etc. Can I use Legacy to input the names as individuals/families etc until I can prove relationship? I think I heard from somewhere that i could add them as individuals and then families - help please

Tuesday's Tip - Playing at FamilySearch.

Tuesday's Tip - something a little different today - let's play! Has anyone tried this? And by this I mean a very clever idea from FamilySearch.org that just recently went online. If you have a tree on FamilySearch (and remember it can be of any size - just the families you are working with for research purposes or a version of your entire family tree), now when you are at the Person Page there are links to "the big 4" and you can check out what is available on ancestry.com , findmypast.com , myheritage.com and (of course) familysearch.org that MIGHT be applicable to your person of interest. If anyone in the LVUG community has tried it, let us know how it works (remember it is in early stages, but a very nice idea in my humble opinion). So perhaps add some family from your Legacy Family Tree to check it out! I am going to give it a shot and will have my thoughts later this week. https://familysearch.org/blog/en/searchgenealogyrecords/

Searching for Modified Date - know what you've done!

Image
I wish I had started this years ago. At the end of each day, but before I run out of steam, I do a Search on "modified since yesterday's date" to quickly review my day's people and do whatever noodley little things I think I'm going to come back to someday. Which could be years from now.

Using the Relationship Calculator - problem.

When I use the Relationship Calculator I get two people related 13 times. But when I swap their positions left to right, they come out as cousins 24 times. Why the difference?

Cleaning up an imported FTM file.

Having a few issues so I'll put them in 2 posts. I imported and cleaned up a FTM file - manually deleted every "Record Changed" event.  They were showing up as problems.    When I run a possible problems report, it is clean.  When I try to delete that event definition, it shows all the same people still using it. I ran  Descendant book and all of the Record Changed events are showing up.  I revisited each person and there are no Record Changed events.  How can I get this to go away?  Thanks!

Making an Ancestor Book - questions.

I'm trying to make an Ancestor Book.  When previewing my book there are a lot of blank entries for dates and various events.  Is there a way to have the report not print fields that do not have information entered?

A Hangout today?

Is there a hangout on air today?

How do I show the RIN next to the individual's name?

How do I show the RIN number next to the individual's name?  I use to have it like that and I do not know what I did that it no longer appears. Thanks

Tuesday's Tip - just in under the wire.

Just in under the wire (I am on the West Coast today). Have you looked at the calendar lately? It is mid-September which means we are almost 3/4 of the way through 2015. Where did the time go? Photo by Plush Design Studio on Unsplash Did you make a genealogy plan at the beginning of the year ? If so, how are you doing on any tasks, projects and/or seminars and conferences you made part of your plan? We still have 3 months+ to work our plans. I just took a look at my to-do list in Legacy and it is time to work on the high priority items and the low hanging fruit (working on my FindAGrave entries). If you haven't taken a look at your to-do list in a while, this week might be a great time. And then do a little bit each week to work through your to-do list. It is important every so often to STOP and take a look at what you have accomplished (whether on plan or not), tweak your plan, and then push forward. Let's have a great final quarter to 2015 . What are you plann

Does anyone have a procedure for recording stillbirths?

I am finding death certificates but, of course, there is no corresponding birth certificate.  Should I record just the death or use the same information for the birth.  My family members seem to have had an unusually high number of stillbirths in the first third of the twentieth century.

Tuesday's Tip - today we have a few tips for you!

Today we have a few tips for you! (1) Continuing with the back to school theme for September - have you checked out the Legacy Webinar series for the remainder of 2015? Now that Summer is over (officially - in the northern hemisphere with Labor Day just concluded), review the many webinar sessions and sign up for any that interest you  (Legacy has made it easy by letting us sign up for several webinars at once). So whether it is methodology, location or records focused, or the newest technology trends, there is something for everyone . Photo by Kimberly Farmer on Unsplash (2) I am a daily walker and now that one of the largest Catholic cemeteries is within walking distance, I am using one walk a week to visit and photograph gravestones. I checked the status of entries on FindAGrave as well as BillionGraves and now I need to make some decisions. Do I work with one or both of those websites? What is the best way  (efficient way) to work with the websites? What settings do

Problems printing a Source Citation report.

In trying to print a Source Citation report in Legacy it got to 74% and crashed for lack of memory. The other way to do this that will NOT stop part way is to print 'as if' to paper but choose your PDF printer instead. This assumes you have a PDF printer installed. The one I use is PDF Creator ( http://www.pdfforge.org/pdfcreator/download ) and it's free but there are others. Just Google it.

Tuesday's Tip - Interview family about school days.

Image
It's a new month and a new school year. Have you noticed all those back to school photos showing up on social media? The children are all dressed up with backpacks attached (some looking happier than others!). Doesn't it take you back? Have you added education, graduation and/or school events in your Legacy program for yourself and family members ? It depends on how you want to enter information - but if you have schools attended, dates of graduation from schools or universities, and/or achievements while at school, you can really tell part of your story as well as that of your family members (going forward and backward). I have included a few slides to give you some examples and resources to get you thinking about how you might want to enter this information. So now that the school bell is ringing in another year, let's get busy and add that part of the story to our events in Legacy. Why not share how you enter this type of information into your Legacy program in
