I believe I am running into a glitch, but wanted to ask if anyone else has the same issue. I've been cleaning up my locations list. I have several locations where the list of "People using this location" do not use that location at all. At least, I cannot find where that location is being used anywhere in their individual page. I have used the file maintenance to no avail. The problem persists for a few locations. Suggestions? Oh, and I'm using Legacy 9.0.0.198. Deluxe Edition on a PC running Windows 10 Home.

I recently verified that I have a Mayflower ancestor. I am entering locations and need suggestions on how to enter Plymouth. Plymouth, Massachusetts? There was no state then or even a colony and certainly no county. Can anyone tell me how they have dealt with this type of early location? Thanks very much!

Hi All I am very confused by the above. From reading the manual etc I get the impression that all locations should be of the form... City, County, State/Province, Country Theses should be provided with commas left to indicate missing data. Okay that's fine but what do I do with house names/numbers, street names and districts etc. For example I live in England and was born just round the corner from Penny Lane in Liverpool (Yes as in the Beatles). Anyway I lived @ 15 Gorsedale road, Mossley Hill, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom. So how do I map that to Legacy's standards. This all gets more complicated when I try to sync with Family Search :-( Anyway I hope someone can help as I don't want to modify some 5000 odd locations and then find they don't fit. Here's an idiot question: What do you call the United States before it was called the United States in your Master Location List?

I just discovered that the boroughs of New York are actually the counties. Do other people list the location as Queens, New York, New York as we tend to think of the boroughs being a section of the city, or New York, Queens, New York since each borough is technically the county for that part of the city?

I'm just beginning to do research on my German immigrant family. I have located the place of birth for my great-grandmother, but I'm not sure how to enter the locations into Legacy. I've been using the 4-place naming convention for US place names: city, county, state, country, but it appears that Germany may have 6 place names. What is the typical naming convention for German place names? Her place of birth was listed as Schornweisach, Baiern, Germany. On a modern map I've located it in: Schornweisach, Uehifeld, Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim, Mittelfranken, Bayern, Deutschland.  I'm sure that is not the location for 1861 when she was born.

Legacy has some tremendous search capabilities for people records in countless variants, which are enhanced by the use of tags, etc. But one of the major failings in my opinion is the ability to search Locations. Adjusting place names is part of my "do over". I want to search the Location List for certain words/names. I am not talking about finding what records/people use a location with a given word. I want a simple list of all the locations that contain that word. I'll use Washington as an example. It can appear as a state, a county, a township or a city and maybe a few other things. But you cannot easily search for all the place names with the word Washington and see those places in a handy list. Maybe you'd like to change the name of one or more of them to Washingbury, or whatever suits your fancy. The Find window on the Location List only works with the Sort selection you have established - it won't find a word anywhere in the place name. ...
