Apologies - travel day with Tuesday's Tips.

Apologies - traveled yesterday and thought I would have time to publish but my laptop felt the need to have some hiccups (must not like my driving). Anyway, later today we will be back on track with our Family History Month - Everyday is Tuesday's Tip Day .

Setting in Legacy for mouse behavior?

Is there a setting somewhere in Legacy where you can set the mouse behavior? Ex: From using double clicks to using single clicks.

Using Legacy version 8 on two computers - a question.

Does anyone have trouble using version 8 on two computers, The file will open on the second computer but ever time I click on the source buttons or note tab etc., it locks up.

Are we missing a letter of the alphabet here?

Tessa -- Did I miss "L"  I have seen all the rest (you are amazing).  Thanks for doing this for the LVUG -- what fun.

L is for LVUG Hangout on Air

L is for LVUG Hangout on Air I did not even plan this but today we focus on the letter L and that's great because it is time for our Legacy Virtual Users' Group (LVUG) hangout on air . The invitation/notification went out on October 9th (with all the information and time conversions). I just pinned it to the top of our LVUG Community as a reminder and so you can easily find it, it you want to VIEW (rather than JOIN us  in the hangout). So have you given any thought to your Genealogy Sabbatical Year ? Where would you go and when would you schedule your research visits? Of course you would take along your laptop or tablet and have your Legacy database up to date, but what else would you take with you and why - basically - what's you plan? We are going to share our sabbatical year plans and we want to hear yours. See you a bit later today.

Tuesday's Tip - Part 3 of our 5 part series on E-Learning.

Today is part 3 of our 5 part series on E-Learning . Now that we know what E-Learning is and we have dusted off our bookbags and are ready to go back to school, it's time to learn about the actual resources - what is out there? Today we learn about some of the resources listed in the Resources Handout (published earlier this month and available to download - live links!). Up today are those resources that you can use on your own schedule and with smaller bites of that education apple.  http://youtu.be/DzRlMOKN3Yw

How do you document erroneous information in Legacy?

I was wondering how people handle the situation of documenting erroneous information so that you don't end up disproving facts repeatedly.  I'm sure ideas range from just deleting the bad info and making a note to adding special events.  I'm just looking for what are the most common solutions as well as any unique ideas.  Thanks in advance. james

Our next hangout - join us!

Originally shared by Tessa Keough As I mentioned last week, our monthly LVUG hangout is going to be pure fun, a bit of escapism, and full of genealogy dreams! On September 30th Jennifer Shoer (aka The Scrappy Genealogist) wrote a terrific blog post about taking a genealogy sabbatical year. In it she asked the question "If you could spend each of the next twelve months living in one of your ancestral locations and researching on-site, where would you go?" And I thought what a great way to get back into the genealogy research mindset (after our summer breaks, vacations and holidays, sending the kids back to school, attending conferences and seminars, and/or doing volunteer projects or home improvement projects).  So please join us at the LVUG Community here on Google+ as we share our genealogy sabbatical years. And remember to dream big - you can research at any place and at any time! Be sure to check out Jennifer's post at The Scrappy Genealogist to get some i

Tuesday's Tip - Part 2 of our 5 part series on E-Learning.

Today is part 2 of our 5 part series on E-Learning. Now that we know what E-Learning is and what learning style(s) we might use, it is time to decide whether we want to go back to school and, if so, how to be A+ students.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffYRhKvHbKU

Question about Descendant book report - help.

I have a problem with the Descendant Book Report that I can't figure out.  My stepson is in his second marriage.  He is a 5th generation descendant of the main person the report is generated on.  No matter what I do his second marriage shows up before his first message (as shown below). Jason married on , in . Children from this marriage were: Jason next married in 1992.  The marriage ended in divorce before 2007. The child from this marriage was: I have a similar situation with my wife (who is a 4th generation person in this report).  This is the second marriage for both of us but the report reflects our situation correctly.  I looked at the marriage list and thought that maybe it was based on the marriage record number since I entered Jason's second marriage first.  I deleted and recreated the second marriage so that the index numbers would be sequentially correct but that didn't help either.  In fact I think I did the same with my wife and I (I entered

Good morning - Where would you go on a research trip?

Good morning - we are going to do our best to post something every day (all under Tuesday's Tips) for Family History Month. We did this last year and it was a big hit. So yesterday I gave you a PDF with 66 links to e-learning opportunities (more on that in our October Tuesday's Tips videos). Today I thought we could spend a bit of time dreaming . Earlier this week Jennifer Shoer (aka The Scrappy Genealogist) wrote a terrific blog post about taking a genealogy sabbatical. She planned her entire year - with travel and research. I think it is a great idea. Why not read her post (link below) and dream a little. What would you do? Where would you go? What order should your trip be set up? Are you coming back to your home-base or just traveling for all 12 months? Jot your thoughts/plans down, perhaps circle the globe (and bonus points if you provide your reasoning). You may be wondering why dream - the true question is why not dream? Perhaps we cannot take the actual trip -

How to research together using Legacy?

I'm having a strange issue--which I hope is not a duplicate query. My friend and I do research on his family on separate continents.  When we have updated our files, we want to merge the information without overwriting each other's work.  We would love to be able to use a database simultaneously, but since Legacy downloads the family file onto the local machine and overwrites the database when it backs up, we seem to have hit an impasse on how to research together.  Am I missing it or IS there a way for multiple users to work on a family history?

Happy Family History Month!

Happy Family History Month (although it is for the USA, everyone gets to share in the fun). No doubt many genealogists, family historians and bloggers will be sharing in a big way during the entire month of October to celebrate family history and genealogy. Do you have any plans - either blogging every day, researching every day, or using a new to you feature of Legacy each day during the month? Why not share and tell us what you will be up to during October. As promised yesterday (you did watch my video didn't you?), the link will (hopefully) open up a handout that provides both an overview of what we will cover each Tuesday for the next four weeks and links for all kinds on e-learning.
