I have just discovered that the same man married daughters in two of my lines. I have sources entered for him in both places. Is there a way to merge the "two" men? Or, do I need to delete one and add the sources, etc. to one of the entries? I'm a little confused. Thanks very much! Judy

In the past, I know that I have been able to edit the details of a source and have them apply to all the places where I entered that source. I entered one yesterday in probably 15 places and now need to make a correction. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks!

I want word processed copies of wills in order to put them into Legacy notes if I want to put them there. I have a copy of a literal transcription of a 1683 will and thought I would be smart to use that with OCR and would save myself some word processing time. Unfortunately, I didn't consider that the language in the transcription would make that almost impossible. OCR can't deal with fift (fifth), ffuller (Fuller), Compitent (competent), etc. Many of you probably have already dealt with this, but I thought I would share. It is hard to word process something like this because you yourself "want" to type the words correctly.

I recently verified that I have a Mayflower ancestor. I am entering locations and need suggestions on how to enter Plymouth. Plymouth, Massachusetts? There was no state then or even a colony and certainly no county. Can anyone tell me how they have dealt with this type of early location? Thanks very much!

Does anyone know the release date for Legacy 9.0? I bought the book. I am waiting for the new program. Thanks! Judy

I'm sure someone has addressed these questions before but I can't seem to find anything on them.  I am having a problem deciding how to enter events. I have done a lot of research using Polk Directories.  My father's family lived in one city for most of their lives and many at the same address for years.  If I want to enter just one line for the Polk Directory for someone with the same address for twenty years, should I just enter 1920 -1940?  But, if you had a tax or voter event that fell within that time bracket, the placement would be off. The other question is regarding occupation.  I would like to record that in the event but can't seem to find a proper place for it.  Right now occupations are with the addresses and employers in the Desc/Place/Notes.  So my Master Location list looks a little odd.  I guess there is no harm in that.  John Smith (Mary), carpenter, Brown Lumber, 100 West Main, Topeka, Kansas  If anyone has any suggest...

I'm not sure where to post this question so here goes.  I go in and clean up my backup files periodically because I backup every time I close Legacy.  So, I accumulate a lot of backups.  Those are zipped files.  I realized that I had not done that to my recently added external hard drive.  I took a look at the backup files on the external drive this morning.  I have the regular zipped files that are on my PC.  But, I also have files with extensions: SC, TC, Rc3, PPL, and RGD.  When I open one of the zipped files, I can see those same file extensions.  So, I am assuming that my external hard drive is saving the zipped file but also saving the individual files.  My question is can I confidently delete those individual files as long as I save the zipped (compressed) files?  I have been saving one zipped file for each month just for safety's sake.  I hope I posted this to the write group.

I have found the need to search for a name that is within a source citation. He is the preacher who married two different couples in my tree.  The name is pretty unusual.  Is there a way to search for a name within the source citations?  Thanks for your advice!

I have installed Windows 10 and have been using the Snipping Tool often.  My wish is that I could copy that image into the notes for an individual.  I have tried saving the image or clipping as pdf and jpg and it will not stick.  It is there visually but is gone once I save the note.  You can insert that image into Word and no problem.  I know many of you will say I should save that as a media item and link it to the individual but I really don't want to do that.  At this point, if it is an obit, I have to word process it into notes.   If you are wondering what my thought process is on this (and I often wonder about my thought process myself), I have used notes for everything on anyone - census, marriage, newspaper articles, etc.  I am doing that so when I want to write a bio on that person I will have the structure and the details of that bio in front of me.  Has anyone tried saving an image into notes and been successful?  Ha...

I've been using the Windows clipping tool a lot and tried to paste a clipping into the general notes section with no success.  Is it possible to do this?  I changed the clipping into a pdf image and that still didn't work.  Thanks for any advice!

I edited the bibliography portion, however, the Subsequent Citation remains the same.  The source is the WV vital records website. When I originally set up the master source I categorized it as death records.  I should have used Vital Records because now I have a marriage record. Is there any way to do this without messing up the records I have already entered?  Thanks so much for any help.

I'm not sure if this is appropriate for the Legacy Users Group but here goes. If you locate a citation from a book that you don't have access to, look it up on Worldcat.  Find a library that has the book and email the librarian there requesting scanned copies.  I did that twice recently and both librarians scanned the images and sent them to me at no charge. I did send a small donation to those libraries. Good luck!
