Does anyone have a method to enter Swedish church records?
Does anyone have a method to enter Swedish Church Records? I use Ancestry and ArkivDigital. I wish there were templates like for England and Wales!
We started out as a Google+ Community - it is closing down so we have migrated here to Blogger. This will be the place for 6+ years worth of posts and comments (an archive of sorts) as well as the place to dish up current questions, comments, and tips about our genealogy software of choice, Legacy Family Tree.
I'll post what I do when I get home. Very confusing isn't it?
ReplyDeleteFor ArkivDigital I used Church record books>created at local level>online images. This is what I ended up with. I am still not sure I have the locations correct, but with this I can find the citation again.
ReplyDeleteSkara country parish (landsförsamling) (Skara, Skaraborgs län, Sweden), "Husförhöralängd for Skara Landsförsamling AI:9, 1844-1857," Joh. Pett. Jansson Household, p. 190; digital images, Arkivdigital, Arkivdigital.net (http://arkivdigital.net/ : accessed Jun 19, 2014). I add the screen prints in a separate post.
And be sure to take a look at Evidence Explained (the book) and/or online where many times these types of questions are addressed. Always think about what am I looking at (or holding) and then go from there. Whether it is in England, USA or Sweden - what is it? And great job working this through.

ReplyDeleteYour entries are very similar to mine with some variations. The important thing is that other can find you and others can find your source, which I easily did. This is what my source citation looks like for my grandmother.
(Karlstad, Varmland, Sweden), Births; Karlstad-stadsförsamling C:11 1874-1889, "Födelse and Dopbok för Karlstad stadsförsamling C:11 1874-1889 Bild 143," Svea Betty Maria Carlson; digital images, AD Online (http://www.arkivdigital.net/).
I'm in a small Swedish genealogy group and some members have gone to adding the AID number. In which case my grandmother's citation would look like the following:
Karlstad stadsförsamling CI:11 (1874-1889) Image 143 (AID: v6846.b143, NAD: SE/VA/13275)
However Arkiv Digital has stated that the AID should not be used a source citation.
"Every image within ArkivDigital’s online archive has a unique identification code named, AID. This identifier should not be used as a source citation for your records but only as a help tool or aid to quickly locate an image in the archive.
You can generate source citations for records while using ArkivDigital online by using the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl + C” (or “⌘ + C” on a Mac) which will generate a citation containing the parish name, volume ID, years, image / page number, image AID number and NAD (National Archive Database) code for a church book record."

I will post screen shot separately
Thanks for your example Len Smith . I didn't know I could have Arkivdigital generate a source.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Len Smith - I am going to go play with Ctrl + C - great information from other genealogists is a post away!
