Tuesday's Tip - Playing with t master event list.

Looking for people in specific places and they are in your mailing, event or repository address lists? Perhaps you are looking for everyone in a particular cemetery or church or from your entries with FindAGrave? Let's take a look at the Master Event List and play around with the options. Ron Heroux (and many of the rest of us) - this one is for you (but it is not really "all about addresses").

  1. Great idea for cemeteries.  Something I'm going to start doing.

  2. Great video, Tessa. I've used this list for cemeteries. One thing I haven't played with is the tagging. Is the tagging here separate from the tagging on the family tab? Also, one pet peeve about the diacritics bar. Very useful if you have one of the chosen languages. Legacy doesn't have them for the Polish language.

  3. That is something they should work on - Polish would be a good addition. And tagging in Legacy - those 9 nine show up in all the views (you can use in individual, family, marriage, etc. - if they are the numbered ones but they are the same tags). However if you tag in locations I think those are just shown as tagged with no number (but I will doublecheck).

  4. Another great video Tessa, and some more housekeeping that I need to do!
How have you handled addresses that aren't linked to the 'vitals' data?  I'm thinking of things like addresses that appear on census records or school addresses etc.  I have just put the address in the notes field, but they don't then appear on your master address list of course.

  5. Been out of town for the last week Mike Edwards - great question. In my events/facts when I have a census, residence, voter record, etc.,  I include the address listed in the notes. But I understand that if we are mapping those places in Legacy we would only get the city/town as our smallest "address." And they don't appear in the master address. I can see them in my chronology report (since they are part of my notes but you are right they won't show up in the master list).  What do any others do for addresses?
