Question about ancestor report.

I am trying to produce an ancestor report for a friend. Does anyone know how to omit the alternative birth & death, etc. information from the report? I don't want  to delete the info from the database but I want to make the report interesting and concise.

  1. One way would be to mark the event private so that it does not print on reports.

  2. That is exactly what I would do.  To make an event private globally go to VIEW > MASTER LISTS > EVENT DEFINITION.  Highlight your Alt. Birth event and then click EDIT over on the right.  Now at the top you will see a check box for PRIVATE EVENT.  Do this for whichever events you don't want to print in reports.  Be aware that this will also cause these events to not be exported in gedcoms.  There is an override for this.  On the gedcom export screen (and on the report screen) you can click PRIVACY OPTIONS and override your privacy settings.  This comes in handy if you want to print a report with these events included.  You don't have to go back and uncheck the Private Event box on the events themselves.
