Legacy error message - windows printer not defined?

Has anyone recently seen the Legacy error message "no reports can be printed until a windows printer is defined" ? What's up with that? I have a couple of printers defined and can print from other apps, just not Legacy. I saw some complaints from 2009 on the forum but nothing more recent and nothing very helpful.

  1. I have not had that one.   I did however get a run time error a couple of times which caused Legacy to shut down.  Hopefully you can get it figured out...good luck!

  2. I'd almost rather have a runtime error than this nagging nuisance! It's a new one. Started last week, went away after a reboot, now its back. Probably something got 'updated and improved' while I was sleeping and broke something else.

  3. I saw today that there is a new update but I could not get it to download.  Hopefully I can get it to update and not have to redownload the whole thing again.

  5. This happens to me every time I upgrade legacy. I found that if I close the program and then reopen it, the printer is defined and will work.

  6. Have this problem also  on a HP laptop running VISTA.  Haven't found out why.  The only solution seems to reboot.  Time for a new laptop.

  7. Make that warning note "no reports can be printed until you have defined a windows printer."
Ok, I rebooted. still get the warning. next I downloaded and installed 8.0.0.501. same warning. Then I noticed that when I clicked on  Printer Setup in the report dialog box and selected a printer, then restarted Legacy, it would always revert back to a different printer. I used control panel to set the default printer, restarted Legacy, and now it works. Weird. But what the heck? It works. I'm happy. Time to go play.

  8. This happened again today. I have version 8.0.0.566. I shut Legacy down, used control panel to set the default printer, and Legacy then worked fine. I should also note another symptom, a report font dialog appears when Legacy starts, then the warning message occurs after I close the dialog.

  9. Yes, I seen the message on a laptop running VISTA.  Never have found the problem.  Very frustrating.  Haven't used that computer for a while, but I think that turning off the computer Sometimes fixed the problem.
