Just found out about the "Event clipboard."

This makes entering a shared event so much easier that having to create the event for each person.  When you create a new event, you will see on the right hand side, underneath the Help button, two small buttons.  The button on the left is to copy the event to the "event clipboard."  After you have completed the data entry for an event you can click on this button. This will copy everything from that event to the "event clipboard."  Next go the person  who shares the event, and open add event.  Then using the button to the right you can paste all the information from the "event clipboard" and it will automatically fill in the four fields on the event menu and all other data associated with the event.

This is almost as easy as using the new shared event feature in Legacy 8, but should get around the concerns that other have expressed in this community.

  1. That is one of my favorite features in Legacy - makes it so much easier adding stuff.  You can also edit it after you paste it.  When I am putting an obit in, I like to copy it to every person that is mentioned in that obit.  Then I go back to the original person and paste it there again but then copy to put some of the stuff in his obit in - occupation, funeral and anything else in there.  Makes entering that stuff so much faster!

  2. Love this feature. I use it for the census the most, copy, paste change the citation a bit. Sure saves on the typing for those large farm families.

  3. Great feature.  I also use the clipboard in the 'To Do List" when working on multiple family members.  Fast and easy!

  4. Why would this be better than the share feature in Legacy 8?

  5. If you export your data to someplace else (like Ancestry using a gedcom) the shared stuff doesn't share up because that is a feature only Legacy has.  If you copy as a normal event, those will show in your gedcom's to put elsewhere.

  6. ah, thanks Kelly.  Sounds like I need to change some of my data entry patterns.  One more cleanup task for the To Do list.  I assume that if you use the event cut. I assume that it will include the source citation in the process.

  7. Yes, it does include any media you attach to the event plus any sources.
