Customizing your event sentences.

+Leslie Wright Bagwell - regarding FROM dates in events.  Here's how I fixed that.  I edited the [Date] field in the event definition screen to read [onDate].  Also changed the [Place] field to read [inPlace].  Here is a shot of my Event Definition screen for census events and the resulting sentence at the bottom of screen.

  1. My screen looks exactly the same except the sentence at the bottom reads FROM
He appeared on the 1870 Federal census from 28 May 1904 in Seattle, King, Washington, United States.¹

  2. Interesting.  Don't know what to suggest.  On that screen, you have a drop down list of Replaceable Fields that can be inserted in the sentences.  Maybe change the date field selection and see what, if anything, changes.  Or press the reset button and load the defaults.

  3. I had never changed anything, so hit the default reset anyway!  It's still FROM

  4. This appears to be a bug (introduced in the Feb 12 update?). Whether you select the replaceable field [onDate] or [fromDate], the entry will always read "from". Try adding both fields and you see the text "from dd mm yyyy" duplicated. Looks like we just need to wait nicely for this to be fixed.

  5. Another thing to look at is your selection at Customize, para 5, Dates and 5.6, Preposition.  I doubt this will fix the From problem but you can toggle that option on or off and see if it has any impact.  Normally From in a date only occurs if there is a date range: from X to Y.  But you don't seem to be using a range of dates.  The fact it comes up in birth and death events on reports and not just customized event sentences is also odd.  Maybe give Legacy Support a shout - they might be able to identify a USR file that is going wrong.

  6. I am half a step ahead of you, reported the problem.  Now I have to send a couple pdf reports to new cousins!  Hope they don't complain!

  7. I went to customize and changed the setting, but it didn't make a difference, the FROM is still there.

  8. I just heard back from Legacy that it is a known problem and will be resolved in the next update, although they aren't sure when that will be
