Today's Poll Question - your comfort level using Legacy.

What is your comfort level using Legacy Family Tree software? This is not based upon the amount of time you have been using Legacy, but is based on whether you use it simply for basic data entry, perhaps use only a few features, have kicked most of the feature tires and made decisions about how you want to use it, or whether you put most of your family history research in Legacy (in conjunction with some other programs). Let's get some idea how our 834 members currently use Legacy.

  1. I facilitate our user group. We all help each other and learn by doing. We frequently hit the "help" button!

  2. I discovered that I could make business cards using Legacy! after another software proved inadequate for my needs. Little by little, I am discovering things I can do.

  3. I've been a The Master Genealogist (TMG) user from DOS days up through version 9.05.  Now that company delelopment and support for TMG has ended, I'm considering future options.  I've purchased Legacy Deluxe and Roots Magic and continue to evaluate both applications. While I've found some features in each I like better than in TMG, both applications are lacking in other areas.  I'm still waiting for announced development of TMG import improvements from Legacy and Family Historian before making a decision.  I will probably continue to use TMG as my primary software witn another application as secondary so other family members will be able to access my data in the future. The end user community support for legacy is a real plus.  TMG uses deprecated (no longer supported software - Microsoft Visual FoPro.) Legacy's use of deprecated software (Microsoft Jet and Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0) is troubling.

  4. I probably should have voted Intermediate since I am really only comfortable with most things I use. But I am not afraid to explore and experiment. I think that's a comfort level too. As you always say Tessa Keough "you can't break it."

  5. I have only recently added Legacy to my list of software. I have been using Family Historian and am investigating how Legacy does things to differently. I went for beginner because I am not familiar with the software.
