Our last question in survey - what Legacy features do you want to learn?

Okay - lucky number 7 and our last question in the LVUG survey - Today's Poll Question - What Legacy features do you want to learn about in 2015? Now I don't think there is a problem with voting more than once (a bit like early Chicago elections!) AND you can also leave comments (we are reading them!). If we have left something out (we only get 5 choices) or you want to bump something higher in the hangout list, just tell us.  So give it some thought (locations, charting, sources, reports, master lists, events/facts, media, searches, customization, supporting programs, etc.) Thanks so much.

  1. Actually, I want to be greedy and learn about Reports and locations!

  2. Perfectly fine to want to learn about more than one topic - otherwise we would have very few hangouts! And if I left something on the list (either in the poll or the post) please add it here in the comments - we enjoy learning and sharing as much as you all do.

  3. I loved learning all that you taught in October each day. THAT was a lot of work so I don't expect that again. Legacy is so rich with "extras" that our Skagit LUG (yup; we're the SLUGs) often repeats a "how do I do this?" from a newcomer or even a long-time member.
Bottom line: My first choice is locations, but I can re-learn about many topics.

  4. Love it Barbara Johnson the SLUGS - growing up in the Pacific Northwest we are quite familiar with those little (and sometimes not so little) guys. I enjoy the shorter videos too as we can focus on one thing and walk through it. Sometimes reading something in the Help section is not all that clear - you have to play with it. And there are lots of features that you don't even know about until you root around in Legacy.

  5. I would like to learn more about Sources. How to write the source so that it will look "official" Or to match how Ancestry or Family History writes theirs. Also when and how to use the detail part of sources.

  6. Tessa, I am like you--I often think "What does that button do?" and click on it. I learn by doing and with Legacy I have learned a lot by "just clicking". I then pass along the information to our User Group.

  7. I would like to learn how it fix my old FTM Sources with out starting over.

  8. Events were mentioned but not on the poll and I'd like to get a little more information on how to do those correctly

  9. Barbara Johnson what do the real life Legacy users want to learn about?

  10. Hate to admit it, but, I still have issues with tagging.  OK, real issue is time, and the lack thereof.  :-(

  11. also tagging. And, I agree with +Barbara Johnson about tips & tricks - short or discussions loosely titled "Did you know about.................."

  12. Reports and locations to finally get my timeline moving.
I hope I am not making a mistake in thinking Legacy Sources makes the process easy and fool proof. Just answer their questions and I think it meets the full source requirements.

  13. Only let me vote for one to add in % column.

  14. Thank you Carol Stevens.  I just do not get the hang of tagging.

  15. A lot of my time is spent trying to match people, with a database of 66,000 names it can be quite a job, so that is my aim this year.

  16. How about that big fat button on myToolbar called Map Family? I've been intrigued by this feature for some time but haven't played with it yet.

  17. Reports, searches and supporting programs.  I love the short videos.   Tremendous help for all subjects.

  18. Thanks so much for the comments - and keep them coming if you think of other topics you want us to cover. We are making a list and playing with ideas and our schedules - and, as always, your input is important.

  19. Ah Dale O'Connor - the big three! Definitely on the list. Thanks to all who voted and commented. Right after RootsTech/FGS - we will be on it!

  20. I would like to know how to fix things that I entered a long time ago. My source list is a mess where I named a source a different name each time and now i am afraid to combine any with so many ancestors attached. Then....how do I fix all those locations in the master list with too many comas or no country attached. I know how to combine sources that are the same but every thing else might have to be done by hand. Its hard to sort by location if everything isnt in the right place. I'm into cleaning things up right now.

  21. Me too.  Somehow along the line, perhaps by importing one too many gecoms, I ended up with all sorts of bogus data in various tables, proper names shown as 'events', and other weird things like that.  Other than manually deleting them, and hoping I don't create worse problems, I haven't found an easy way to fix it or clean up the database. So far it doesn't crash or behave funny but I keep backups just in case.

  22. It's slow laborious work, but if you want it right you just have to keep going.
