Is there a way to transfer or move an event/fact?
Is there a way to transfer or move an Event/Fact from an Individual to a Marriage? When I started using Legacy I recorded resident information for a married couple under both individuals. Now I see that this resident information prints twice in a descendent report. OR do I need to go through my entire Legacy file and do a copy paste? (I'm starting the Great redo on my Legacy files).
I'm pretty sure it can't be done in batch mode. But yes you can copy an Individual Event and paste it as a Marriage Event.
ReplyDeleteMeg Gisslen I get two entries on my print outs too, so I'm not sure if I should just be recording the information in the marriage and not having a marriage event for each person. Maybe Tessa Keough could help with that. The same for birth information, do you also include an birth event when you've already entered information in the birth field or is the event for further information from the certificate perhaps? As for copying the information, yes, go into edit on the event, towards the right of that screen that opens, you will see two icons, one to copy and one to paste. Select copy. Go to the marriage, choose add event and click the paste icon. You would then go back and remove the one you copied. HTHs.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find any way to do this. Also, I've always figured that the Events section was for events that were not covered by any of the other data entry fields on the individual view. There is an event clipboard but it looks like you can't go from an added event to the marriage event.
ReplyDeleteI just tried it James Green . If you go in and edit the event that you want to copy, on the right you will see a Copy & Paste icon. Click copy, close this event. Go to the Marriage events, select the paste icon and save. I was able to copy a Census into the marriage event. Even though I don't want it there, I've now removed it. As you have said, I think you're correct in that the events should just be for those that are not covered in the other fields. I thought I saw a webinar where another event was being created. I need to remove some of mine now. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteIf I have birth, death, baptism or burial information that is different than what I have already recorded I add an alternate Event / Fact. For example: if I find a different death date I will add Alt. Death Date as the Event / Fact and then add information to the notes section. I use Alt. Death Place, Alt. Burial Date, Alt. Burial Place, Alt. Birth Date, Alt. Birth Place, etc. As far as the residence information goes if they both lived at the same residence I will create the Residence Event / Fact for the husband and share it with the wife. The only marriage information I under their marriage is Marriage License, Marriage Registration, Marriage Announcement, Divorce, etc.
ReplyDeleteHey Jenny - Ok, it looks like I didn't carry it all the way through. I was trying to add to the overall marriage record. I didn't try clicking the Add Event button then do the paste there. Thanks for teaching me something new!
ReplyDeleteShannon - You may already know this but for those that don't - the nice thing about using the "Alt." birth/death/baptisim/burial fields is that under options Event > Options you can swap the alternate event with the primary event with a single click whenever you prove the alternate info to be the correct info.
Goodo! Glad you got it. I'm learning all the time here. :)
