Default wording USA instead of United States - how to set?
How do I set the default wording for a Geo Database location to USA instead of United States? The image below shows what came up when I searched the geo database for Rockport, USA. I can amend the "United States" to USA manually every time, but I'd like to avoid having to do that.
I think that might be under Options - Expand/Contract Locations Parts. I use United States instead of USA and the only button I have ticked is the one that says, Expand Long Location Names and Contract Short Location Names. See which boxes you've got ticked and if there's something you can change.
ReplyDeleteThis is found in Contract/Expand Location Parts in Help. In Master Location List go to View, Master Lists, Location. Once there choose Options button and then Expand/Contract Location Parts. In the right hand side you have a choice of using USA or United States or nothing. I selected USA (that's my preference) and then clicked on Continue and it goes through and fixes any that its needs to and should make that your preferred choice in future. Was it easy to find - No, the index and search in Help were not very clear unless you know the magic words. Hope this helps Ed Allard
ReplyDeleteThank you Tessa Keough , but that doesn't really work. If you check "create a report: at the bottom of that screen and read the report after pressing Continue, you will see that it doesn't work on the Geo database, it only goes through your existing Location List - and it will only add USA if there is nothing in the fourth position. That makes sense, because the Geo database is not really a part of Legacy. When I add a new location and then locate it using the Geo database, the default is still United States. I want to fix that Geo database entry so that I don't have to manually adjust it every time. I need to go into the Geo database country file and make a change, but I'm not certain exactly what change to make so as not to upset the coding. I'll post an extract of that country file so you'll see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteThe last I heard, the change was made from USA to United States to conform with the preferred verbage in FamilySearch. I don't think it can be fixed. Periodically, I do a search/replace on locations and just change it there.
ReplyDeleteEdit-Just saw the fix posted. brilliant
