I am using the multiple source function for the source clipboard.

I can't seem to figure out how to choose the source from the clipboard that I want to add to an individual or event.

Are there specific instructions for that?

  1. I'm not totally clear on what your question is, maybe because I'm using  v.7.5 and I've never heard of 'multiple source function', BUT this is what I do know:

If you click on Advanced Sourcing, and then click on Source Clipboard you'll see at the bottom of the Source Clipboard a "Load" option which goes to a list of 10 clipboards. To choose one you will have already had to Save clipboards. Or at least one.

If there's certain sources that you use repeatedly it might be easier to save them as clipboards than have to browse looking for them every time.

If I totally missed the point of your question, please try to rephrase it. I vaguely recall a different version of the Source Clipboard in an older version of Legacy.

  2. Great advice JL Beeken as I do use the load/save option for sources that I use on a regular basis. I think Sandra Hammons might be asking about having a couple of sources in the clipboard that you can "attach" to an event/fact all at one time. So if you used the census, the family bible and personal knowledge for a particular fact you can add them all at the same time. This was on the earliest version I used (6) removed in 7 and reintroduced in 8 (as far as my memory serves).

I did not use it as I found it too easy to add sources that really did not fit the event/fact but others swore by it. Sandra Hammons do let us know if between us we were addressing your question. As far as instructions go, have you clicked on HELP when you are in the multiple source function - as it should bring up the steps. Does anyone in the LVUG Community use this function and, if so, please feel free to walk us through "choosing the source from the clipboard" for Sandra.

  3. I am using v. 8. Your idea is helpful. The source window shows 5 tabs in my version. I presumed I could click on a tab and that source would be attached, but it attached both sources I had on the clipboard.

  4. yes - that is what happens and I know several people that were unaware of that and attached 5 sources to an event. What they thought would happen is they could put 5 sources on and pick and choose each time which of those sources to use - that is not what happens. For that you want to use the load and save feature (I have the ones that I always use on that feature). Again one of those situations where you have to understand what the feature is and how it works in Legacy (and all programs I am guessing).

  5. Thanks for the help. I now understand how to use this feature. The help info for the program was not clear to me.
