Always monitoring new members to our LVUG community.

Some of you might be wondering why our LVUG Community membership numbers jumped around overnight. Thanks to Monique Riley who noticed that we had a number of "members" with no names, blue heads, and/or rather inappropriate names and interests. I guess the beginning of the year brings out those odd folks. Thankfully due to some quick culling work - they have been banned.

Heads up to all members (new and old). We have an open community because when we originally started I wanted people to feel free to join. We really haven't had many problems with this open system. But every once in a while we have to go through the membership list and determine if there is no name or an odd name whether that person is interested in genealogy, a real person, someone trying to sell something, or (our favorite) a porn site (jeez!). It helps if you have an avatar and/or if you have some mutual genealogy friends or are in mutual genealogy communities, and/or if you have posted something genealogy-related.

If you see someone who doesn't belong here and we haven't caught them - please do let us know (message any of the moderators). Thanks so much and now - back to genealogy and Legacy!

  1. It's a thankless task. They just generate a new batch of usernames and email addresses. I get over 1,500 spam emails at my blog every week. Occasionally I go through a few hundred to see if a legit comment got put in the Spam folder. Apologies to any true friends who get lost that way.

  2. We have not had a problem - and Google usually catches - last night there must have been a full moon.
