Question on narrative reports in Legacy.

So glad to find this community. I have a small issue to solve in Legacy and I hope somebody can help me. Do you know any way or workaround to change the order of personal name in various reports? I would like the first names to appear after the surname in a descendant narrative report. Any suggestion would be welcome. Thousand thanks :)

  1. From what I looked at Domokos Nagy-Vajda I don't see a way to do what you want in Legacy's Report options. You can set up your Index for the Descendant Narrative to read the way you want but not the main body of the Report. I am guessing you could export or print the Report to plain text and make the changes yourself, but that seems like a lot of work. I took a few screenshots and will show them in a separate How Do I Do That? since Google has not included that option here. Anyone else have any ideas?

  2. Thank you  +Tessa Keough for your time. I guess I just have to wait and hope that Legacy will consider my requests and one day will include an option to make this possible. Anyway I don't expect to finish my research until this time next year, maybe until then something comes up. I was able to "convince" the program to display the names in the title the way I want by changing the tags (eg. Descendants of [SurName] [FirstName] instead of Descendants of [FullName]). This works fine in the title, but - as you mentioned - not in the body. Changing the name order manually unfortunately is not an option: the report involves the population of an entire village, some 9000 names. Anyway, I think sooner or later Legacy - as they are becoming more and more popular in Eastern Europe as well - will face this challenge, because apart from Hungarians, several Eastern cultures also use their names "reversed".

  3. But with the Index at least people could easily find the ancestors they are looking for. Wow a whole village - that is impressive. I enjoy hearing about people doing specialty family history research. Domokos Nagy-Vajda have you sent your request for an improvement to Legacy?

  4. Tessa Keough Yes, this problem of mine is really not an essential one, it's more like a style-issue. I always capitalize my surnames so there won't be a problem for anyone to see which is the surname and which is the first name, I would just like my report to "sound Hungarian". The entire report can be easily translated with "Search and replace" except for this name-thing. :). In every other way the program is just perfect for me.
And yes, I have sent several improvement requests, once I even offered to help translate Legacy into Hungarian. Maybe they thought I was joking :)
