Sandra Hammons very interesting article about an event in American history that has affected relations between the States for several generations. I moved your comment to Discussion from Sources because Sources pretty much deals with how to use sources in Legacy. In fact this LVUG Community is about Legacy software. I think though that several members here probably have connections to the Civil War in their family files - so you may be interested in reading this article. Sandra do you have Civil War ancestors and how have you included them in your Legacy family file?
ReplyDeleteThank you for pointing me to the correct category. I have several Civil War ancestors, both Confederate (mostly) and Union (several). I add that data as an event in their life, entering each detail as a separate event. For instance I would enter the enlistment date &location. I have two ancestors who were wounded, so I enter that as a separate event with the name of the Battle and location of the battle--date wounded and date returned to service and so on.
ReplyDeleteI add notes with the details that I know about each event in the Civil War, such as name of commanding officers, details of how the event occurred if I have found such a record. I would also add details such as family letters which are part of that military record. For instance, I have one ancestor who died of pneumonia in Atlanta. There are two family letters requesting compensation for his widow and 2 children.
I like the fact that Legacy has such a rich environment for entering a great deal of information both for my reference and to enrich the family story.
Thanks so much for sharing that Sandra Hammons - my own ancestors either came much later or stayed out of the way (as they were very recent immigrants). But I do find the history of the Civil War fascinating and know that it makes up a rich tapestry of many family files of our LVUG members.
