How to make a global correction to a source detail in Legacy - help.

Does anyone know how to make a Global correction to a SOURCE DETAIL  to a source used  by more than one person?  If  I make a correction  or an addition to the the SOURCE DETAIL, it would be so nice to be able to have this correction made to every person using that particular SOURCE DETAIL.  Without having to manually correct each source detail.  I know I can copy the source in the SOURCE LIST SCREEN and paste into the event where the previous incomplete Source Detail was recorded and then delete the previous source.

    Len, have you tried going to "View" on your Ribbon, then selecting Master Source? This will only work if you are a splitter. I am a lumper, so it won't work for me. Give it a try and see if it will work and let us know.

    Joyce , This won't work because it will on change the Master Source and not the Source Detail for a particular person.

    I'm thinking that there is no global update by design, can't each source detail be different? - it would be like trying to make the same change to the different text found on each page in a book.

    What is the exact SOURCE DETAIL you want to change for multiple people? because generally it would be something different for each one.

    Depending what it is --- There is a Search option for Source Citation. If you scroll all the way down on Detailed Search/Where to look, it's the last one. After you have a search list, you might be able to use Search and Replace/Citation Comments or Citation Details or Citation Text.

    I think what you want to do can be achieved only if it is a "shared" event. Hmm, but maybe that corrects only the event, not the source detail; but I am pretty sure it does both.

    Yes Linda. If I correct the detailed information for a source in a "shared event", it updates to all persons.

    To answer JL, it the source could be anything, but typically it might be a census record, where I didn't think I needed to do a full transcript and then later on I decided I really wanted a full transcript. I guess that will teach me to ALWAYS do a full transcript. The only way that I have found to correct the source detail across all members of the census househould is to either (1) correct for the head of the household and then copy the source and paste it in for each person and then delete the incomplete source for the census event or (2) correct the detail for the head of the household, copy the detail, and then past the correction into the detail section for the census source for each person. If anyone has a better idea, I am open to suggestions.
