Are you a curious genealogist? Do you take opportunities to increase your skill sets or knowledge base in genealogy? Would you like to learn more about Legacy but don't know where to look?

Today, let's put on our thinking caps (as my 5th grade teacher used to say) and satisfy our curiosity.

To learn more about Legacy -
(1) if you need help, just ask (Legacy's help system can be found on every view). If you don't understand how to use a particular feature either look it up in the Help Index or go to that feature and click on Help.
(2) check out the videos in the learning section of Legacy's website.
(3) check out the October 2013 and 2014 Tuesday's Tips (posted daily) here at the LVUG Community - we went through tips for using Legacy that just might answer your questions AND/OR use the search box (over there at the left-hand column) and search for a topic to learn more about it.
(4) check out YouTube videos - use the keyword "Legacy Family Tree" and/or also check out other software programs. I post videos on various aspects of Legacy.
(5)  Michele Simmons Lewis has some great blog posts and helpful tips over on Facebook, and why not check out how others use their software - I find that Russ Worthington and Randy Seaver do a great job explaining how they do something at their blogs and after I have read their posts,  I just try to do it in Legacy!

To learn more about genealogy and family history -
(1) Check out the learning areas at FamilySearch.org (click on Help), Ancestry.com (click on Help and then Learning Center) and FindmyPast.com (click on Help). Whether you find online classes, explanations of record sets or research topics - the big 3 make an effort to inform and educate the genealogy community.
(2) Check out the Geneawebinars.com calendar - this is a listing of all online webinars, hangouts, sessions in one easy place (thanks DearMYRTLE).
(3) Interested in something in particular - why not check out blogs on Geneabloggers.com - simply type in your location or topic of interest and you will find a list of blogs that just might help. Thomas MacEntee puts together this list - AND if you have a blog to add to the list, let Thomas know.
(4) check out the weekly (and more) webinars at Legacy Family Tree's website - Geoff Rasmussen puts together a great calendar of webinars and more that cover records, methodology, software, and location research. Take a look at the calendar, focus on sessions that will help you with what you are working on NOW, and sign up to learn about it.

So today - spend 15 minutes taking a look at upcoming online activities that will help you with your family history research and "put on your thinking cap!"

  2. well there is a thought - there are plenty of classes and study groups out there. And that is especially helpful in the winter when you just don't want to go out (or drive in snow).

  3. No driving in snow here - winter is simply very rainy here, Tessa Keough  Snow only falls maybe a week or so in December, ditto in January.  I look for everything I can find online (free), because of my interesting financial circumstances! And there are so many options - I'm quite thrilled at being able to continue learning.
