Tuesday's Tip - use Legacy's Help feature.

It is the Tuesday before Christmas and I am sure most of us are busy decorating, cooking or baking, picking folks up at the airport or train station, dealing with the children out of school, working an extra schedule that is not ours so someone else can travel for the holidays, watching the television specials, listening to holiday music , going to see Star Wars, or - for the lucky few - you have found time to work on your family history and you have your Legacy software open today (wow, I'm impressed!).

Christmas is a time to be thankful (and give you a challenge - so please read through this lengthy post)

Let me start by saying a huge thank you

(1) to all the LVUG Community members who jump in and ask or answer questions (that is how we learn),

(2) to those of you who joined us in 2015 (it is great to have new members to help share the knowledge), and

(3) especially to my co-moderators who are always on the look out to welcome people and answer questions - Carol Stevens, Linda McCauley, Monique Riley, and Shannon Thomas - none of us could do it alone (and thankfully we don't have to!).

(4) to Legacy & Millennia and the individual employees for your software, the webinar series, the customer service and your social media activities that help keep all of us up-to-date - oh and thanks for supporting the software and all those updates and improvements.

Today's tip is to enjoy your genealogy and family history - work on it with dedication and enthusiasm but always remember what it is all about. It is about people - our direct line, indirect line, and/or specialized studies. It is about helping others learn how to find their families and their history.

And with that understanding comes the knowledge that we need to be aware of the people who are alive and around us today! Is there someone you know that needs a bit of holiday cheer? Is there someone you don't know that needs something to help them make it through the season or the coming year?

Just like Legacy has a HELP tab (pretty much everywhere in the program) that provides answers and assistance, let's try being that Help tab for someone else in real life. In her annual Christmas letter, my Aunt asked us to take a Christmas challenge this year and I would like to share it with you.

Go to your closet and find one or more things you have not worn or used this year - we all have them. Perhaps it is a sweater, coat, warm hiking socks, gloves, hat, sleeping bag, blanket - you get the idea. Bag or box it up and take it to a local shelter or your church, or a facility like Goodwill. We can always help others, just like Legacy helps us. (thanks to my Aunt for that terrific challenge - I wish every family had an Aunt Peggy).

Best wishes for a joyful and merry Christmas (and for those who do not celebrate Christmas - have a wonderful holiday season). See you back here in time for a Tuesday's Tip before the New Year.

  4. I hope everyone has enjoyed their Christmas holiday.  I have been sick and went back to work today.  Thankfully it is only a short week.  I will be on less for the next few days but once the new year gets here I will be back on more often.  See everyone next year! :)

  5. get better soon Shannon Thomas - lots of sleep, plenty of fluids and binge watching a favorite series on Netflix or a good thriller does the trick for me. Happy New Year.
