Not impressed with Legacy 8 - your thoughts?
I downloaded Legacy8 yesterday but am very disappointed. I will be continuing to use v.7, I think. I have many pictures and scans of documents in v.7 and don't want to take the time and energy to put them all into v.8, one by one. I thought they would be brought into v.8 automatically.
I would have thought so, but I'm not really surprised that it doesn't. The media relinker doesn't work very well, even if you started out with version 8. As a precaution, I now always allow Legacy to make a copy of my original to place in its own media folder. It's probably a waste of drive space, but I figure it will make future re-linking and backups easier if the program puts the files where it wants them.
ReplyDeleteI have moved from RootsMagic to Legacy 7.5 to Legacy 8. I have very few images that did not transfer. The images that did not transfer were images attached to facts. I have very few images attached to facts, but, those were the issues. 95% of my images, text files, PDFs, voice and videos are attached to the multimedia. NONE are stored IN Legacy.
ReplyDeleteThe media relinker works if you give it time to run and you don't have multiple copies on your drive. Or if you know where all your media is pick up those floders and place them in the media folder within legacy family tree in your my documents folder. Hopefully your stuff isn't scattered all over your drive.
ReplyDeleteI think all you should have to do is link one photo from each file. The rest should come over with the relinker.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the input and advice. From what I can see, the media files are not linked to the people at all anymore. I copied all the pictures from my Genealogy folder within My Pictures and put them into Legacy8's Media folder, but none of them are linked. So the Relinker doesn't do anything and neither does the Gather feature.
ReplyDeleteI just noticed that all my pictures now show up in the Pictures Center, but still none are linked to anyone.
ReplyDeleteMedia Relinker didn't work for me either. I'm still using v.7.5.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you have not done anything to change the links to your images in your Legacy 8 database. There is no need to move your images from where you put them when using Legacy 7.5 to a new location for Legacy 8. All you have to do is go to Customize, select "6. Locations", check option "6.2 Default location of media files"; if the location path is not the same as it is in Legacy 7.5 for media files click the "change" button and select the location path. All of your images should now show up. If you need anymore help, please ask.
