Legacy does have limits!
I guess Legacy does have its limits. It's being pulverized trying to import a 98MB Gedcom with 103,000 people in it.
We started out as a Google+ Community - it is closing down so we have migrated here to Blogger. This will be the place for 6+ years worth of posts and comments (an archive of sorts) as well as the place to dish up current questions, comments, and tips about our genealogy software of choice, Legacy Family Tree.
Why would you want to import that many people?
ReplyDeletemichelle kaplan It's a DNA project where I look at the direct-line ancestors of my matches. Sometimes people send me a gedcom of their entire family file back to Adam and Eve and I have to extract the tiny part I can use.
ReplyDeleteGeez, you're keen.
ReplyDeletethat is lots of people!
ReplyDeleteI regularly work on a database of 260,000 with no problem. I know a few others that have over 1,000,000. You should look elsewhere if you're having trouble...Legacy is not at fault.
ReplyDeleteRon Taylor I think we're talking apples & oranges here. I've been a happy user of Legacy for 10+ years and I wouldn't have it any other way. But have you ever tried IMPORTING A GEDCOM of 260,000 people? 103,000 worked ultimately but I could see Legacy was choking a bit on it.
ReplyDeleteSorry, not a large import like that from GEDCOM. Just daily work on the large database. Perhaps there is a problem with the import. I'll have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteRon Taylor Or it could just be a problem with all the problems within that particular gedcom. Some of these files people send me have a Potential Problems list longer than the number of people in the database!
