A separate database for obituaries - thoughts?

I would like to build a separate database (file) for obits and their image files.  Does anyone have any recommendations on how to use Legacy for that purpose?  This would not be connected to my family file.

  1. Hi Vicki:
You can have as many databases as you can keep track of. I have a file for my personal family and a separate one for my One-Name Study (ONS). Just tell Legacy you want to male a a new file then name it and save it!

    Have fun.

  2. Agree with Joyce Herzog .

But, my curiosity will not stop wondering, why?  I know there is a great reason for this, and since I always need enlightening, could you explain why Vicki LeMere?

I have been collecting local obits for a long time.  I would like to combine all of these into one searchable database.  At some point I would like to donate it to a library or genealogy society so others can have the benefit of the information.

Forgot to add that most of the persons are not in my family,  thus the need for another database.

  5. Vicki LeMere, are you planning to build a "locality" genealogy??  I have seen that done, where someone will undertake a genealogy for a county, for example.

It is quite cool actually and a powerful research tool.  Also a dedication that is beyond remarkable.

I have to wonder if a spread sheet sort of thing would not serve you well in this instance?

Or, how bout a blog??  I have done two small ones, one for Bibles and one for Memorial cards, for our county,

    Bibles, here:  http://lenaweebibles.blogspot.com/

    Memorial cards here:  http://lenaweeinmemoryof.blogspot.com/

Lots of ways to approach this.  What a wonderful thing to do, Thank you!  Good luck

I had not thought of doing a locality genealogy.  That would be fun.
Just wanted to pass on what I had decided to do.  With more looking I came across a link and found out that Clooz has finally updated their program.  I do believe this will do.  I can also have multiple databases in Clooz so I can also use it in my own family tree.  And less expensive.  Have order it and hope to have it up an running tonight.
