Questions about adding a census.

Adding a census. I started in Chapter 3 of Legacy Family Tree Version 9 Unlocked. On Page 70 Geoff added an unlinked male named John Williams. When I got to Page 92 where he showed the updated Chronology view of John Williams all I had was a Census and Occupation entry.

Where did all the other info he had come from?

I did not have a birth, anything about his spouse or children being born.

Does each of these items have to be keyed in as an event? Does the info come from info keyed for John Williams?

  1. For the information to show in their chronology view you will have to enter every piece of information seprately. Birth and death should populate automatically if they have been filled in on their individual screen. I can share some screen shots for you if it will help.

  2. Shannon,
I am confused on Census and Events. I have watched everything I can find on Sources and Census. I don't think I have seen anything that says you have to enter every peice of info separately on events. Could be I have never noticed it. I don't think it will hurt to have some screen shots. Thanks for your help.

  3. Shannon,
I got out and went back in to Chronology. Now it shows birth, birth of spouse, birth of each child and death.

  4. Here is a chronology view. Everything circled has been entered individually as an event.

The information regarding her family members is there because they are linked to her.

Her date of birth and date of death are there because they were entered when adding her to Legacy.

  5. This is her individual information screen where you enter all of her details. The yellow highlights are all of the information that I entered as an event which then populates the chronology view as seen above.

  6. If you have any other question please let me know and I will try and help you out.

The events don't have to be an event. I have "events" for occupation, findagrave memorial, census, military, arrest, photos, etc. Then that "event" will show in the chronology view.

  8. I watched the first video. I will watch the second one.
Is there a way to print your samples? When I try it only prints part of it.
I think you telling me what must be entered in events made it a lot clearer. I thought everything came from entries on the person. I did not know that you had to enter it as an event.
On Geoff's video he showed entering an occupation. The occupation entry shows but the occupation that was entered does not show on Chronology view. What is the purpose of entering it if it does not show what his occupation is?
    Thanks,
    Dale

  9. Have you taken a look at what and how the chronology view displays? Go to the bottom right of the chronology window and click options and then display options.

As far as printing my examples I would right click the image and save it to your desktop and then right click it and print it from there.

Also, on my blog there are a lot of examples of how I enter information into Legacy. If you have more questions let me know.

  10. Your last example raised a new question. Why do you have Census-son and Census-brother-in-law in your Chronology?
    Thanks,

  11. When I enter a census I put all of the information in the event under the head of household and then share the event with everyone else in the household.
